I have an idea for a play about a young man in eastern Texas disowned by his Evangelical parents for being openly gay in 2001. By 2014 he has been away from town and returns as a religious scholar to speak with his hometown community for a book. He wants to interview his parents about their views. The hook in the play is that he had a sex change and is unrecognizable to those in the town - including his parents - as a woman. It will have a tragic ending as She reveals herself as their "son" and they cannot handle the situation. (there is no sex in the play. It is about who you are and your respect for others).
