(154,021 posts)I know, to use your words, the truth hurts. I have my policy disagreements with the President of the United States. They are principled policy level disagreements like those usually present in a mature democracy between the people and the government. I should remind you that the Government should serve the people and not the other way around. That does not mean that any, or most of the people, you are charging with being homophobes are.
I will use myself as an example, because your charge Sir is false. While you were not yet old enough, I was fighting for mostly men, who were HIV positive, in the not fun years of the 1980s, so they could get needed medical care. It was to the point that I got into screaming matches with the head of a General Hospital in Tijuana a few times. I also educated EMTs and Paramedics in safe medical practices and warned them about biases towards patients. I fired a couple, who refused to treat HIV positive patients. That behavior is not acceptable in any medical system. In fact, I also worked with local activists to get these people the services they needed when they were feared, as cursed with a disease from God.
So I will not ask you for an apology. I fear you are incapable of one. But I ask of you to start to consider your words a tad more carefully. Some of us do have policy disagreements not just with the President, but even with my Mayor. That is what happens in mature democracies. My disagreements have actually to do with things like what we need to reach cost control measures in the medical delivery system, one that is currently failing.
There are a few other aspects where I understand and agree with the policies emerging from the White House, and one in particular that I am shocked Chairman of the Government Oversight Committee, Daryl Issa has not yet exploited. OF course we have our suspicions as to why not and has little to do with principle. But alas that will be for another day, and another series of readings. Right now I am just having fun reading into climate change policy. It is really fun stuff, but hey, some of us have to do this.
