4. Too many claiming evangelical Christianity are religous zealots but not Christians.

I accepted Christ as my Savior when I was a young man. Christ has never told me to hate anyone. His words were to feed the poor, help the sick and afflicted. He never preached for anything but humility and none of this real Murican stuff. During Vietnam, I felt jesus was with me, not because our cause was just but because I had accepted him . Unlike many of my more more professing Christians I did not believe I would die and burn in Hell. Jesus only taught us to do good. He never taught us to hate anyone for their sexual orientation, and he certainly displayed his anger and his dismissal of those who seek only money or power.
Maybe many here believe I am a simpleton raised in a restrictive patriarchial home but let me assure you that I have a relatively high IQ and I chose to be a Christian with little prompting from my parents.
So many profess Christianity but only seek religiousity and the respect or favor they can garner from others in their respective communities. I have observed so many times, a highly respected and very wealthy member of the church is found to be committing a crime. Of course many say not to judge that he fell from grace etc. , but the crimes seem to have been occurring for most of the time he was help in such respect.
There are good Christians out there. They do not hate, they believe Jesus's lessons and they work to help others including Gays and Lesbians or any others in need. I love people, but I feasr so many on this site, do not understand that about real Christians and push us away.
Whether you believe the world started with a big bang by chance or whether you believe God created it, we all have goodness in us. it is that light of goodness we must share with each others and the world. Lets knock off on some of the hatred and arrogance and we will all be better people.
In any case, I welcome the news that gays and lesbians are being more accepted. I have been accepting many of them as very good friends for a very long time.
