The four-unit franchise owners routinely cooked the books to the detriment of the workers. A favorite trick was to work them 48 or 52 hours the first week of the pay cycle and then short their hours by 8 or 12 hours the next week so that the weeks would "average out" to omit overtime pay.

They would also routinely "bend" child labor rules, working 14 and 15 year old eight or nine hours on school nights.


Great stuff. I'm sure that this goes on all the time, sadly.
