In reply to the discussion: New digs for the 2014 fire season [View all]nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)29. CAL FIRE just did the this is why you need defensible space
It is dry and hot. They are already dispatching the kitchen sink at the smallest hint of a fire, even one that from google map I knew was a dud today. There is at best ten square feet of veg in that spot. But while urban, they know sparks can start a structure fire.
Humidity is down to 5% or less. Midday temp in the back country was 95+ and wind advisory, tomorrow might be warning. And circulation, late August, early Sept, all the way to the circular air circ.
This might affect where you are, the back is on the dessert floor, into Imperial. Still geographically far from you, but that is what it is doing.
We are getting near ideal for an explosive firestorm by the way. But hey, when it happens DU can watch pretty film on CNN.

At 9,000 feet do you need air conditioning or does the altitude keep it cool?

Neat place! AND you're not having to climb a few hundred feet of ladders to walk the dog...
