Check who they've kept and who they've let go. All the major networks are owned by extremely conservative billionaires who insist the script fit their agenda.
Even the pundits that people get so exercised about, often fail to get to core economic and social issues, or gloss them over. And they all must play the broken record of false equivalency, or else.
Because if they questioned the clothes their emperor wears, they're out in a heartbeat. The network bosses do not allow their 'liberal' stable to compete with GOP and libertarian views directly, or argue policy and how many people will die or be hurt by them. Never.
They generally only allow tamed liberals, to delve into the personalities of obnoxious conservatives, not the hideous and inhumane aspects of what they are doing to the American people daily. That is not going to be allowed. It's a diversion.
An example is the story of the philandering GOP official who kissed another woman. DU also got a happy off of that one. The media will go with the jaded personal story, but ignore the bigger story behind the outing of a man who did this months ago. He's now come out and supported Medicare expansion in LA against the GOP machine there. The news will not cover his defection and the real reason for his character assassination politically.
Likewise the latest blurb of Al Sharpton's alleged time as an informant for the FBI, which he denies. Much air time will go to his denial, the days of an event that has no political relevance, in order to dispose of the real news that Sharpton spoke of this week, the upcoming NAN conference, where Obama will speak. Sharpton characterizes the remarks and direction he expects Obama to make, as:
This is the first civil rights group hes addressing this year, and before we go into midterm election season, the Rev said. This is also going to be the first time he makes a major address in a city where de Blasio has made income inequality a big issue. A lot of things will be coming to a head racial politics is not defined as it was 20 years ago. In that reshuffling, the presidents speech is going to have very serious ramifications.
That's from an OP about an article by the NY Magazine, which harps on every word they can pen to denigrate Sharpton to overshadow what could be a substantial report of liberal and progressive ideas designed to deal with income inequality and equality:

If one of their pundits step out of line, that is what happens, or like Schultz, they will find their time slot changed, or like Keith, be out the door. They went after him personally, but the real issue was his attacks on the right that were getting liberals feeling strong. O'Reilly has always done much worse things and there is no punishment. This is what happens when the conservatives own and control the messengers.
MSNBC gives airtime to even well-discredited conservatives on the so-called 'liberal' shows to oppose ideas the 'liberal' pundit harps on. They have to 'make nice' with despicable criminal GOP types, giving them validation.
You can see the self-censoring that takes place with other pundits, they know they can only go so far. They are tantalizing, but not effective in giving liberals the talking points they need to counter the conservatives, and if they get very popular, they're gone.
The owners have no cause to reply to any liberal complaint that their actions generate. It's because know they have no competition. You either watch their watered down pundits or do without the comforting illusion that they are getting useful information on current affairs.
Just sayin'
