(16,484 posts)I even remember one DUer made the statement that rural people have lower IQs. My own thoughts are that many people who choose to live in the countryside do so because they are introverts. Much of DU is urban/suburban and it is widely recognized that many rural districts vote republican. What upsets me is the vote can often be 60-40, which still means that 40% of the vote is blue. And yet that is completely ignored.
As for the rancher who is the topic of this discussion, he was given plenty of notice and chances to come to an equitable agreement. He chose to remain obstinate. Given that the government has to protect the ecology of their lands (our lands) and this rancher never paid any fee for use of the land to fund maintenance, the government has had to crack down hard. If persuasion and courts don't do it, eventually the billy club is the last option.
