(58,286 posts)You can defend yourself against a knife. A bullet, not so much. It is a lot harder to drive a knife into a person's skull and takes a lot longer. He was able to kill her with just one bullet to her head. Didn't have to struggle with her and could claim it was a momentary delusion. But anyone who has smoked pot knows it doesn't make you murderous or even aggressive. His defense attorney will probably make sure there are no pot smokers on his jury.
There are a couple other hints in the story that he wasn't exactly in love with his wife. It notes on Valentine's Day he posted a picture of his kids on facebook as the "loves of his life" --not his wife. As he sat in court after his arrest, his demeanor was described as "stoic." If you just came out of what was supposed to be a drug-induced hallucination and just learned you had killed the woman you love, you would not be "stoic."
