In reply to the discussion: Why Apple's iPad is in big trouble [View all]DirkGently
(12,151 posts)25. Apple's tablet share is 36%. Second place is 19%.
Pretty dominant. The stories are pushing the share of Apple vs. all Android devices COMBINED.
Wouldn't we expect competitors to pick up market share once they started actually making similar devices?
How is the iPad "in trouble" based on other tablets now ... existing?
I think it's great there are other tablets out there now, and that cheaper types are available. Why is that supposed to mean doom for Apple?
Step 1: Apple re-designs and popularizes a segment of electronic consumer device. Huge popularity ensues.
Step 2: Everyone else hops onboard.
Step 3: Huge push to brag that the copycats are now better and cheaper, and no one wants the Apple product anymore.
Step 4: Hasn't happened yet.
Here's an idea. Let's acknowledge that Apple has made some great stuff that many people enjoy, AND appreciate the fact that others will come along and hopefully push the technology to be better or more affordable, without the weird mean-spirited fantasy that somehow the world-altering Apple product really was bad in the first place?
Nobody thinks that. If they did, they wouldn't be so obsessed with saying it all time.
Jesus.
And yes, old iPads are all still working, so sales are going drop, because everyone who wants one has one already. And they don't fail much. Our Gens 1, 2, & 4 are all fine.

I suspect Apple has something else in the pipeline. I know how many are antipathetic towards Apple-

iPads are a ripoff. People like them because they're flashy and simple.
