In reply to the discussion: Snowden is a hero [View all]bvar22
(39,909 posts)146. The same thing happened with Daniel Ellsberg.
He was initially demonized by Conservatives and Authoritarians as a traitor.
They were on the WRONG side of History,
just as those who demonize Snowden are on the WRONG side of History today.
At least some have sufficient Ego Strength to admit they initially made a mistake in judging Snowden a traitor.
History will prove Snowden and Greenwald to be heroes of Democracy and Government accountable to The People.
The Pulitzer for Public Service will go a long way to confirming their role in History.
*Rampant Government Secrecy and Democracy can not co-exist.
*Persecution of Whistle Blowers and Democracy can not co-exist.
*Government surveillance of the citizenry and Democracy can not co-exist.
*Secret Laws and Democracy can not co-exist.
*Secret Courts and Democracy can not-co-exist.
*Our Democracy depends on an informed electorate.
You either believe in Democracy,
or you don't.
It IS that simple.
