and then I simply disengage. The troll is left spluttering in impotent rage as he's left dangling and his subsequent unreasonable post laying there like a fish that has been dead too long and is beginning to stink.

Most trolls are your basic narcissist and the meanest thing you can do to them is withdraw attention. I do the one post for any fence sitters and then I leave.
