I live in Atlanta and see clearly what is coming.....

1. Republicans know in their hearts that change is coming in terms of demographics
The trajectory is toward an increasingly ethnically diverse and younger population. Both of these trends bode ill for them as Republicans attack undocumented workers, attempt to suppress the vote and are general obstructionists. Younger voters are increasingly more supportive of gay rights (including marriage equality), more concerned about poverty, income inequality, homelessness, student debt, etc. and increasingly irreligious. They know this is the Armageddon for them and they are doing everything they can to slam it to anyone they don't like.

2. Hate the Gay
That worked well in the 2004 election when a constitutional amendment was passed defining marriage as between one man and one woman. Interestingly conservatives don't have any problem with divorce, serial marriages, etc.

3. Love the Gun
As they see their country slipping away from them because there will be more non-Christian, non-White, non-gay hating, irreligious persons around they feel they have to pump themselves up by embracing their guns.

4. Eliminate taxes
They think we are a low-tax state and continue to drive us in the direction. The fact is we are a lower tax state but not a low tax state and the jobs that were promised by reducing taxes haven't happened. Trickle down? Not so much

5. Hate the ACA
They passed a law that prevents a state employee from even mentioning to a citizen they could get insurance by going on the federal exchange. The governor will not expand Medicaid which means Georgia taxpayers are paying for citizens of other states to have health insurance but denying it to our own citizens because the President is black
