Over ninety nine percent of gun owners don't use them to harm others. Less than one percent do.

So from a psychological perspective, as you put it, why do we project onto the many others what the very few do? Back where I come from we call it 'bias' - whether it is the right wing trying to pain all muslims as terrorists or people who think all gun owners are just gonna go and shoot everyone up.

And 'nra talking' points is terribly lame. Really. It is nothing more than an attempt to lump someone into a group you hate with the hopes that anything they say is tainted by it based on other things the group says/does. And it is very transparent and never addresses the points brought in a discussion (probably because the person has nothing to offer to counter it except 'see - some group we don't like says the same thing, so...I dunno...).
