Who is "projecting onto the many others what the very few do"? Certainly nobody I know. Who thinks "all gun owners are just gonna go and shoot everyone up"? Nobody that I've ever met.

You know you are in weak position when all you can do is offer straw men. I'm in favor of cost-benefits analysis, which in this case means getting gun violence down in line with our international cohort. Your straw arguments are merely a distraction.
