I was desperate to spend public and public outdoor time with my grandchildren and not have to run off somewhere and smoke.

I, also, didn't want them to ever remember me smoking and since I was their guardian at the time, I would step
outside to smoke, which meant shutting the door as they came toddling after me. Sometimes they
would stand behind the door crying for me.

California was great about putting rules and regulations against smoking that made sense. And when I saw friends and
acquaintances quitting I knew it had to happen for me, too.

I just quit, cold turkey as they say, almost 11 years ago. I have saved a lot of money over those years. I guess
that should have been the impetuous in itself to quit but it was a reward for me after the fact.
