In reply to the discussion: Stop freaking about Monica Lewinsky [View all]DirkGently
(12,151 posts)Looks to me like the Monica-shaming is all coming from a "Her recent interview is a Republican plot to tangentially embarrass Hillary somehow" POV.
Why else are the pointy heads exploding?
It's an old story, and Bill's out of politics. It was a thing that happened. But the response from some is that we must now suddenly re-litigate who was "more" at fault, and that should be Lewinsky.
Which, by the way, is wrong, as it would be the older, married, most powerful man in the world, not the 20-yr-old intern, if we must go there.
I don't see any way to read so much anger as anything but defensive partisan knee-jerking based on the ludicrous fear that somehow Hillary will be impacted. It's a threat response, from people who see everything as a threat.
Which is a quintessentially conservative reaction, but the way. Thus the attempted "slut shaming." Upset a conservative, Republican or Democrat, and watch out for the race / sex / religion / orientation / whatever - based slurs.
