In reply to the discussion: Stop freaking about Monica Lewinsky [View all]tea and oranges
(396 posts)That entire episode of American history is a disgrace. I was deeply offended at the time over the slut-shaming of Ms Lewinsky, the way she was called fat, the way the president was ridiculed for his taste in women. It was a too-good-to-be-true opportunity for the R's to trash Clinton & hate on women publicly. Including Hillary.
What's bothered me to this day is that the Clinton's weathered the scandal just fine, thank you. But Lewinsky? Here is a bright, well-educated woman whose career has been short-circuited. Can you even imagine a young man bringing her home to meet his mother as his intended bride? The type of shame she was subjected to lasts a lifetime.
Maybe she did snap her thong at Clinton, but as the older person w/ far more power, it was up to him to resist. He didn't & added to Lewinsky's shame by saying, "I did not have sex w/ that woman."
If Lewinsky wants to speak, I say let her. Let her say whatever she wants, whenever. Certainly she's earned that right.
