(2,337 posts)The idea that the NRA opposes "Smart-guns" because of a perceived benefit in increasing gun sales from gun violence is absurd. Let me explain this from a gun owner's perspective. I will not own a smart gun because I find them to be inherently failure prone. Among the many reasons I own a gun is for self defense. I'm not willing to trust something which contains delicate electronics and a battery to operate perfectly when I need it to. I don't buy any firearms designed and marketed within the last ten years for this reason. Maybe after the military and all police demonstrate the effectiveness and reliability of these guns over, say, 10 years, then I'll consider getting one. Which makes more sense? That the NRA is opposed to smart guns because they actively gain from more deaths, or that people don't trust the technology?
