(13,324 posts)One doesn't have to condone a specific action - like the Slushee-throwing - to acknowledge that the definition of violence is both broader and more subjective than just "kicking ass." Psychic violence in its various forms - bigotry, poverty, etc. - is ultimately just as damaging as direct, physical violence, to the extent that in some instances, "popular justice" can be looked upon as a form of self-defense.
And speaking of continuums, I think we all exist on one between "asshole" and "noble," and the two aren't mutually exclusive by any means.
"I understand that psychic violence... should be countered at every turn." I feel much the same way, hence my admittedly intemperate posts earlier in the thread. Though said resistance need not automatically equal physical assault - there are other ways.
