(674 posts)and I'm pretty sure he said exactly what he intended to say. I mean, I think he said it correctly, as he intended. I don't see his recovery being less scripted than his statement. He doesn't almost panic, he finishes his statement. If it were on a teleprompter it would have been written just as he said it.
The ensuing controversy would help the GOP. They pander to racism and I would guess that anytime Santorum or Romney makes a public racist remark that they go on to deny, it reaches a lot more closeted haters and draws them into the fold.
When he shifts his head slightly like he's throwing out that word and searching for another, it looks like it's been rehearsed. He said it this way on purpose. He doesn't hide his racism, he sneaks it into plain view to reaffirm to his supporters that they have the right party. He sends a message that politics can return to the division of apartheid like inequality. That white people can view themselves as the "masters".
Molly Ivens warned us to not take Dubya's idiocy for granted. He played the fool but it was with precision and with purpose. This season we see a re-targeted Rovian style of endearment attracting millions more bottom feeders up into the political process.
