(8,646 posts)and I'd like to point out that I think #2 is a problem with a lot of people - it's so subtle they deny its very existence and are very defensive when someone suggests that they may benefit from something they don't believe exists. Sadly, by denying its very existence, they perpetuate it. IMO, that is why it's so important to make people aware of what it is...most people, once they are shown, understand. Unfortunately, there will always be a small subset of people who will take the suggestion of privilege as a personal attack on their own life. I don't know if it's because they are being willfully obtuse, or if they are worried subconsciously that acknowledging it means they will no longer benefit from it.
Anyway, I don't know the cure either, but I'm aware of it and I also do my damndest to not perpetuate it.
