(135,425 posts)When I was a youngster, a dog was bullying a group of kids. I was part of the group as were a couple of my siblings, and the dog was preventing us from crossing a yard (that didn't belong to the dog, either). This was well before the days of "leashed" pets--everyone let their animals run free. Our cat kept running past the dog, trying to get the dog's attention away from the group of children. Eventually the dog chased the cat, and the cat went up a tree. While the dog was barking at the cat up the tree, the cat leapt from the tree onto the dog's back, rode the dog (yelping like mad) around the block twice, then jumped off at our house and sauntered up to the porch.
As children, we knew our parents would never believe the story (we scarcely believed it ourselves), but fortunately one of the parents of a child in the group of kids was outdoors and saw the entire thing.
It became a bit of a neighborhood legend.
As for the cat, she was a female cat and she was very well socialized--she went everywhere with us children, and even wanted to get on the school bus with us, and was very irritated when she'd not be allowed on. Sometimes, she'd get in front of the bus, and one of us would have to run home with the cat and lock her in the house so the bus could take us to school. This was so long ago that a bus driver would actually wait on a kid taking a cat back home...very much the dark ages!
