One of our 2 females, a beautiful little 8 pound tuxedo named Chessie, has a true hissy fit if cats from the neighborhood show up on our deck. She puffs up, throws herself against the sliding glass doors, and emits ear piercing yowls and growls. She only does this for other cats. She pays attention to squirrels, possums or raccoons, but not the full on freak out.
A couple of days ago, one of our other cats, Winston, managed to push aside the gate we have blocking the screen door to the deck, and squeeze out thru a hole in the screen (that my husband has not fixed yet - grrrrrr), courtesy of a squirrel. My husband was looking for the escapee when he heard Chessie go into her intruder alert mode. Winston was on the deck, and she didn't seem to know it was him.
My husband quickly repatriated Winston, who came to no harm during his few minutes of freedom, but it interesting that Chessie has been growling and hissing at him, and taking swipes, ever since.
This all occurred while I have been out of town. I get back tonight and will be eager to see how everyone is responding to one another.
