(17,656 posts)Last year the Republican controlled state legislature passed a law in our state requiring that anyone who is registered to vote in the primary and who wants to vote for any Republican candidates running for office this year must first be a registered member of the Republican party in order to cast a vote on the Republican ballot.
That's what is called a "closed ballot" --- it's for party members only.
Only Republican candidates are listed on their ballot.
Their ballot is "closed" to voters who are not registered members of their party.
The Democrats don't have any such requirement for any registered voter to vote for any of the Democratic candidates running for office.
But, they have to use a separate ballot since the Republicans have decided to have a "separate, but equal" primary election this year.
So, when I see that you decry loyalty as a trait that should not be used for judgment, I think you totally missed hearing about the Republican's scheme to use closed ballot primary elections in order to limit competition, so they can re-elect all of the bums they have in office now, as they are going to do tomorrow in their closed primary.
That's not the way our founding fathers saw America's elections being run.
So, either you know how high the stakes are this year, or you don't.
The Republicans have changed the election laws across the nation to stack the deck in their favor.
With gerrymandering, holding closed primaries, and fund raising that has already reached new levels for their GOP primaries.
Hell, Rep. Mike Simpson has even been running ads for the last 2 weeks with Mitt Romney giving him slaps on the back for being such an ultra conservative representative in an attempt to try and capture the Mormon vote in Eastern Idaho, for crying out loud!
If you want to question President Obama, go ahead.
But, please keep in mind, he is the president, and he was re-elected . . which means that the majority of the people in this country voted for him TWICE!!
Not just once,, but twice!
And also remember, the alternative candidates were John McCain and Mitt Romney.
So, good luck with your questioning.
I'm sorry President Obama can't wave a wand and make all things better in your life.
I guess you simply dismiss or forgot about the 2010 GOP Tea Party coalition, Speaker John Boehner holding America's budget ransom, the Republicans voting to close down the federal government last October, and also causing the United States to lose their 4A Bond rating with all their shenanigans calling for the repeal of "Obamacare" . . . but then, besides all of that crap, maybe you haven't heard that the House of Representatives led by Speaker Boehner is only scheduled to hold session in their Congressional quarters for 95 days this year.
95 days!
That's what we used to call "having a summer job" back when I was a kid!
