(11,197 posts)enable them to retain their hold on the Democratic party and continue to further their fiscally conservative agenda. The third-way New Dems have been losing seats with every election. Their worst nightmare is the prospect of a fiscally progressive Congress that would set about the task of addressing the huge imbalance in wealth distribution. Their new plan is obviously to couch their fiscal conservatism, while publicly touting a new progressive social agenda. It's not the social issues they care about anyway so why the hell not jump on board since America is already moving solidly in that direction. It's maintaining the fiscal policies that they have worked so hard to enact over the past few decades, and which have helped greatly to produce the wealth distribution imbalance we have now, that they fight for.
