44. LBJ sent the FBI into Mississippi when three civil rights workers were murdered.

He only did it because the local police either wouldn't do their jobs or may have actually had a hand in covering up or even aiding the murders. The local police may not have filed any charges for murder, but the FBI filed charges of murder against the conspirators at the federal level.

If we assume that the Sanford Police Department may have buried or even destroyed evidence pertaining to this case, the FBI and/or the Civil Rights Division at the Justice Department may possibly become involved regardless of what the state government of Florida thinks because now it's an issue of official government misconduct pertaining to violating somebody's civil rights.

I know it's 2012 and not 1964, but I have a sneaking suspicion the local police authorities may have done some wrong here.
