Sam was pretty much a tightwad, as the local newspapers reported. And wages were low even back in the '80s when I worked at one of the warehouses along Arkansas Highway 102 there in Bentonville. Things are no doubt getting worse now, but the seeds were planted for all this at least as early as the '70s, with the listing of Wal-Mart on the stock exchange which made it beholden to Wal-Street.
