7. I was a huge, huge, huge fan of Keith's for years

I am still grateful to him for helping me feel less helpless during the latter part of the Bush years. Knowing that someone on a real news channel was actually talking about what was going on, and that hundreds of thousands of other people were watching him too, gave me hope that things would someday get better.

I am also immensely grateful to him for mentoring Rachel Maddow, in particular, and for guiding MSNBC to the left. He made a huge difference for the better. The world is a better place because of what he's done.

However. Does a mature adult start off his statement with "I'd like to apologize... for the failure of Current TV"? What an ungracious and petulant thing to say. I've always believed the stories about how he was difficult to work with, but I just lost a lot of respect for him with that statement. Current is still on the air. It's as if he either hopes or expects it to fail simply because he's not associated with it any more... either way, his statement displays a huge lack of class.

I'll always appreciate his steadfastness in the days before MSNBC made the deliberate decision to lean left, and I wish him well, but his behavior in this situation just makes me sad.
