(6,257 posts)Nerd culture as a whole, and I say this a nerd, has a HUGE problem with sexism and it really needs to be addressed. For starters, there's the always annoying "gamer girls" are faker attitude. My best friend has faced similar problems to Felicia. Whenever she goes into a store to look at Magic the Gathering cards she gets hit on by at least two guys, even when her boyfriend is right there.
I'll never forget this time I was on an RPG forum and this girl mentioned trying to get her boyfriend into tabletop RPGs and some guy posted something like "you should just leave your boyfriend and date me. Seriously, I'd love to have a girlfriend like you. Luckily the moderators stepped in and banned him from the thread, but the woman mentioned that guys will do that to her at conventions and it's really creepy.
However, the worst example I can think of happened just recently when a female writer on the website ComicBookResources posted a review of the an upcoming Teen Titans cover and ended up with threats of rape, threatening phone calls and having her bank account hacked. It actually prompted the site to reset their forums with much stricter rules which is a step in the right direction, but still it's beyond disgusting that things went as far as they did. Here's the article about that particular incident:
