And yes, that is why they have them.

When this comes to trial will only be relevant if the ballistics reveal close range.

Otherwise it lets us poke holes.

It also reveals that dad was not a criminal judge. Or he'd know better.

This almost reads like a boiler plate crime novel...in fact, I bet a few writers are keeping notes.
