Did he not stand up for the issues we find most important when nobody else would? Why are you so quick to throw him under the bus?

I don't think Al Gore is the problem, here. Check out Joel Hyatt, the partner who is most involved in the operations at Current. He has an unpleasant history with regard to employee relations.
