I spent a bit of time on the local "topix" board. ( I have nearly 5,000 posts there under my registered handle, probably triple that unregistered). You had 3 or 4 progressives/democrats, and about 10 - 15 wingnuts of the most vile sort and their socks. I am quite used to holding my own in such an environment, therefore I feel right at home on Discussionist. The more thin skinned might not enjoy their time there.

We even had the notable militia nutcase ex police chief from Gilberton, Pa. post there a few times, along with his local chapter buddies. It was a perfect opportunity to expose to anyone lurking just how unintelligent and warped these folks are.

And they are on the far end of the spectrum. There are people out there who don't buy into everything the progressive/democratic line advocates. They are not necessarily stupid and often have insights that someone with a rigid viewpoint might miss.

Furthermore, someone who is an average, non hyper political type who wanders onto D.U. and scrolls down the o.p. titles in G.D. might well say to themselves "what the hell am I doing here"?

I like Discussionist. I hate censorship.
