Dad did, in a weird mix of a statement where he said he needed to speak in Pashto because his son had forgotten English. But then he only said that, then moved back to English. Why recite the first line of most book of the Koran in Pashto, then say "I am your father" in English if you are trying to communicate with your son who hasn't heard you in 5 years?

I am kind of perplexed about his dad and his behavior.

I am even more perplexed that the crew at the White House didn't do a better job of handling the parents and getting a grasp on what they were going to say. They really should have had some idea that a guy in a scraggly beard reciting a line from the Koran in Pashto wasn't going to help sway public opinion toward this recovery being a good thing, especially knowing all the questions surrounding his sons disappearance in the first place. They should have advised him that it would probably makes things easier on his son coming back if he didn't do anything to stir up more controversy, even if contrived and fake.
