CBD is the "companion" of THC in the cannabis plant - one molecule moderates the other - it goes both ways. CBD is not psychotropic and moderates the psychotropic qualities of THC - this is why so many plants hybridized since Reagan spurred the sea of green from Vancouver to Amsterdam and all points in between have ultra high levels of THC - to maximize the psychotropic effects while minimizing the plant material necessary for this.
It's well known that high levels of THC can cause discomfort and paranoia in some people. It's not good to be alone in such a situation. This is why I find what she did so... utterly... ridiculous. If she had vaporized a small amount of plant material, she would've been better off, imo.
Even with better descriptions of content, etc. - people are going to vary in their responses and this will have to do with their level of use and their internal cannabinoid system - i.e. endocannabinoids.
If she had been an experienced cannabis user, she would've also had cannabis metabolites in her system that would've mediated the effect of THC, just as adding some CBD would do for someone.
if anyone wants to fly me to Denver to do a remake of The Maureen Dowd Cannabis Story, please contact me. I promise I will eat an entire 16 dose portion - but will also supply myself with some CBD cannabis if I decide to curl up in a fetal position and stare at a brick wall for hours.
I can't think of a better metaphor for the sort of "east coast" journalism we've been getting from "pundits" about this issue, however. Au pointe.
