Why not revert him back to his former rank? Even with no charges against him, he's back in the Army and only received his promotions in absentia. Others the Army would have had to undertake formal courses, training and assessment to reach his rank.
Any experts on why he should or will remain a Sergeant?

As I understand it, many soldiers get what are called battlefield promotions
