Teddy Kennedy was rich, and he was a terrific Democrat. George Soros is another who actually did make his own fortune, rather than inherit, as the Kennedy's have.

The larger point is people raise the question of the Clinton's multimillionaire status within the context of a discussion about her possible presidential aspirations, and can she empathize with - as others here have put it - making the REAL hard choices between "medicine, or food?" "Rent, or the car insurance payment?"

Given that her husband's terms were hallmarked with debates about, for example, adjusting the COLA formula (and one example I remember well from that time was it was okay to take out the price of steak because people would simply substitute hamburger), and in light of their incredible growing material wealth, I don't think either one of them has learned ANYTHING about the massive wealth inequality going on the US.
