Two individuals committed a terrorist act. Those two individuals shared a number of common ideals with Tea Party members, but one cannot then claim that all Tea Party members are terrorists. It's a formal syllogistic fallacy (Illicit Minor):

The crazy Las Vegas couple are Terrorists
The crazy Las Vegas couple are Tea Party members
Therefore, all Tea Party members are Terrorists

It doesn't work, just like this doesn't work:

All cats are felines.
All cats are mammals.
Therefore, all mammals are felines.

Look, I know it feels good to vent one's spleen at the Tea Party, but if the term "terrorist" is to have any real meaning we can't just use it as a pejorative to insult our opponents.
