7. And just so we don't leave it with me laughing at you...

...let's try this:

Ever since the election of 2000, when it became so glaringly obvious to me, I've been saying that there is one political party in this country. The Money Party. And it has two main wings.

Those two wings can be described as "Global Corporate Fascism" and "Global Corporate Socialism." The first wing is represented the Republican Party, and the second by the Democratic Party.

While I'm not a fan of either system, I'm certainly more aligned with Global Corporate Socialism. Fascists steal things (like elections) kill people (like Iraqis) and just generally behave horribly. As we all know. I like the Socialism part, but the Global Corporate part? Not so much.

But, those two wings do have the same, or at least some overlapping owners. This is the "1%" that we've been talking about now for the last couple of years. And often, these owners find ways of catering to "both sides."

News Corp might be the best example of this. They are certainly politically in the Global Corporate Fascist camp, and Fox News is the perfect example of how it plays out. However, other News Corp properties cater to the GC Socialist camp, and "liberals" will run with cash in hand to deliver it directly into the pockets of Rupert Murdoch and Prince Al Waleed bin Talal, et al. See: Cosmos with Neil deGrasse Tyson, The Simpsons, Family Guy, and just about any good movie of this millennium.

So while your tribal instinct is certainly commendable, the idea that this is "simplistic, black/white, divisive crap" is inaccurate. Yes. Both parties do it.

For the record, I'm a member of the Working Families Party. One of the more "liberal" of the small third parties. And in my state, candidates can be on the ballot for more than one party. Therefore, while I've voted for Barack Obama twice, I've never voted for him on the Democratic ticket. That's how I can be a member of Democratic Underground, without being a registered Democrat, and still "work towards making sure that Republicans don't get elected."
