Since 1957, Kentucky has had only two Senators from the Democratic Party, Walter Huddleston (lost his re-election bid in 1984 during the Reagan sweep of Mondale) and Wendell Ford, who was re-elected three times before he retired over fifteen years ago. Both stayed where they were by fiercely defending tobacco interests.

As far as where Elizabeth Warren wants to spend her time, that's up to her. She'd do better for us by directing her time and her supporters' donations to people who could actually take a Senate seat away from the Rethugs. By drawing her into a probably fruitless battle with him, McConnell has taken heat off of much more vulnerable Republicons.

Wendell Ford is the second-longest serving US Senator from Kentucky in the state's history. The first? Mitch McConnell.
