8. Guessing the point is "what value do we place on other life forms vs human based ones?"

We don't need more humans, so readily expendable - whereas if we were low on population they would be crucial to survival (I believe battlestar galactica covered this) and worth more to the human race.

A new life form is like gold, old ones we have plenty of are like sand.
