4. I think the evaluating criteria are kind of loose

For example, I did not see any mention of such things as the rates of female homicides and reported rapes/assaults, percentage of women in prison, percentage of single mothers living at or below the poverty level, etc. that could paint a different image of the "misery index" for women in other states. And median incomes may be low in the 5 states in that list, but the cost of living is also usually lower than in other states.
