1. I remember seeing him once back in the mid- to late-'80s

actually saying something to the effect that you don't have to like Jesse Jackson to see that the growing economic disparity between the haves and have-nots in America was a bad thing. He even showed a chart demonstrating that the rich were getting richer and poor were getting poorer.

I guess the law of averages predicts that he'll say something reasonable once every few decades, kind of like the roomful of monkeys banging on typewriters eventually writing a line from Shakespeare.
