(3,982 posts)We need to get real on this. Our population is a bit unhealthy, we dismiss the citizens of other countries as primative and violent by nature and just like any bigot we make excuses for what is really a shortcut to our ethics.
Yes, if there are two choices that we benefit from we will generally pick the one that doesn't hurt people. But our population is all aware that many of our actions and policies that hurt people are not necessary, they are wanted to maintain our lifestyle and prop up our corporations and the dollar.
I don't think I have talked to a single person who does not understand this. The prominant answer is either "all nations do it", or some version of the "ends justify the means".
How are we ever going to change. Like an alchoholic or drug abuser, as long as we don't admit to ourselves our real condition we can't resolve it positively.
(Note: I am not saying *everyone* accepts it. Obviously Kucinich doesn't and many people protested the war)
