Our Military Industrial Complex is getting better at blowing stuff up real good and inventing new and exciting ways to kill people more accurately. Drones mean we don't actually have to destroy the entire village to save it any more.

While our competitors come up with inventions and ideas that serve all of humanity and make a direct positive contribution.

Our MIC only produces stuff of a general economic benefit mostly by accident, when they find out their new weapons of death created some new spin off technology that could also be applied for peaceful purposes. The internet, for example, was created in part for purposes of national security. The original purpose was to keep government running and connected in the event of an American mainland nuclear attack. Satellites that are used for GPS is another MIC creation that eventually produced enough technology to benefit all us little people.

Our world economic rivals beeline direct to beneficial and economically stimulating technology as their primary goal. Occasionally we get lucky and some new heinous killing tech can also be used for peaceful and beneficial applications.
