I don't think there's any harm in offering the same rights to gay couples as straight couples, and personally I think I'd like to marry another man one day if I find the right one. But there have been rational arguments from within the gay community that marriage and gender roles are symptoms of a patriarchal power structure that should be rejected rather than assimilated into.
