According to the police report, on February 26, 2012, at about 7:17 p.m., Officer Ricardo Ayala was dispatched to 1111 Retreat View Cir. with regard to a complainant – presumably Zimmerman – spotting a suspicious person in the area. While en route, Ayala received information that shots had been fired. Upon Ayala’s arrival, Officer Timothy Smith had a “white male, later identified as George Zimmerman, in custody.”

Ayala was the second to arrive on the scene so your scenario is plausible but this is one of those things where I wish I could triplecheck everything the SPD says.

On further thought, since the report of the first officer on the scene, whose story is the one with the holes, is on that same report, shouldn't the dispatch and arrival times be different? Dang it, I want a timeline now!
