In reply to the discussion: This IS foreign policy: Obama pushes for TPP deal by November [View all]Laelth
(32,017 posts)12. Makes perfect sense to me.
Democrats need big money from both Hollywood and BigAg in order to be competitive in November. If the President pushes their agenda for a bit (and the TPP is what Hollywood and BigAg want), he hopes to curry favor with them and get their support for the mid-term elections.
Personally, I have come to the conclusion that Obama is no great fan of the TPP. He has delayed and complicated its passage for years (even if he has always been supportive of the concept rhetorically). At this time, however, the party needs big money, and, as the party's leader, he's trying to secure it for us.
I expect to see a lot more talk about the TPP up until November, but I expect to see nothing come of all that talk. This time, I hope I am right.

There goes my vote for Hillary. Just as bad a sell out/"mistake" as the vote for war with Iraq.

Exactly. Plus, this is what makes me laugh at those who try to justify stuff by waving polls

I have no doubt that he'd much prefer moderate Republicans to liberal Democrats. /nt
