Welcome to the new DU.
The lack of substance in this one, particular post wouldn't necessarily be a problem if there were substance behind the adulation in other places on this board... but I am having trouble finding evidence of that anywhere here. It's pretty striking that, during an election year, you can look down this entire board and not see a single post talking about recent achievements on behalf of the people, or plans for policies that will help reverse the movement of this country toward corporate authoritarianism. Not one.
By contrast, we have seen all kinds of news over the past month of policies on behalf of corporations, the MIC, and the police state. We have received a steady stream of news about settlements for corrupt banks, new spy centers to gather email and phone records of Americans, "reluctant" signing of legislation for detention indefinitely without trial, claiming of the right to assassinate American citizens, plans to speed pipeline construction, and exclamations from Obama's Secretary of Defense that the war budget must be spared.
It is not out of line, therefore, when we are given yet another "feel good" post with vague, pretty words, or bright flags, or gushing over the President's proficiency in sign language, to ask what he is offering, policy-wise, that is inspiring these soaring posts. If questions along those lines elicit hostility rather than an actual response, this board begins to look like any vapid Republican flag-waving event, and that should concern all of us.
Democrats want Democratic policies. We have lately had an overdose of the corporate and the neocon with regard to policy. Especially during an election year, it is fair to ask for substance behind the soaring words.
