15. I wouldn't put Edison on the top of that list. He was actually kind of a thug.

However, Hollywood has him to thank, in large part, for the Film Industry being in Southern California. In addition to large amounts of sunshine required for filming in days before effective and cheap studio lighting, moviemakers moved out there to get away from Edison's goon squads, who would bust up movie houses showing "his" proprietary idea- the motion picture- beating people up, setting fires, destroying equipment, etc.

Like I said, sort of a thug. Who had good PR people.
