86. Way too much misinformation on this bill...

First, there never was language that allowed indefinite military detention. Concern that the bill could be read - with a little stretching of words and definitions - to allow indefinite military detention of citizens led to rewording and additions that made it very clear that it couldn't apply to citizens or legal residents (that was back in July).

Nevertheless, its been referred to regularly since as the bill that allows the president to put you in prison for as long as he wants...its baloney, all up one side and down the other.

That journalists, bloggers, and even congress has made so much of a continuing kerfluffle over it is a sign of how uninformed people have become, and how alienated they are from the legislative process...as an antidote, I've recommended over and over that people read the actual bill. I can't say that I've seen any sign that anyone has read the actual bill though, even the guys who wrote it.
